Welcome to the GulfStreamer December Newsletter
A Race Too Intense to Hold Every Year...
The Halifax River Yacht Club in Daytona Beach Florida is proud to announce the 7th biennial running of the GulfStreamer Race - a sailing regatta from Daytona Beach, Florida to Charleston South Carolina. This 225nm race has been held on even years over Memorial Day weekend since 1998 and the 2010 race is drawing sailors and spectators from all over the southeastern United States and beyond.

The first 10nm of the Race will be a traditional sprint race called the Brian Every Sprint, named for a local sailor who was lost at sea.  This traditional, "race within the Race" to the Daytona Beach Pier will be an opportunity for a separate trophy, as well as bragging rights, to each boat first in class.  Though the sprint race is part of the 225nm GulfStreamer Race, an entry form is available online for anyone wanting only to sail the first 10nm sprint race.  There won't be any time to celebrate the sprint finish as sailors entered in the Race will immediately continue towards Charleston, 215nm to the north.

The Halifax River Yacht Club will be hosting a dinner on Wednesday, May 26th to welcome the sailors to the Race.  HRYC will provide a free keg of beer for the event.  No regatta is complete without a rum party and HRYC knows how to throw a party.  Thursday, May 27th from 1700-1900, HYRC will host a FREE RUM party with steel drum music and a buffet dinner.  Breakfast will be served on Friday, May 28th followed by a weather briefing and skipper's meeting at 0900.  The Race is scheduled to start at 1300 at the Sea Buoy off Ponce Inlet.  Please go to www.theGulfStreamerRace.com for more information on these events.  HRYC will also provide FREE DOCKAGE the week of the Race to any boats entered in the Race.  This is on a first come, first served basis.  Please contact HRYC for reservations (386) 255-7459.

Not to be outdone by HRYC's hospitality, the Charleston Yacht Club will host a breakfast and bloody mary party on Sunday May 30th until 0900.  A social is also being planned in the City of Charleston later Sunday afternoon/evening for all racers, their families, friends and spectators.  More on this to be announced soon.  The awards banquet will be hosted by the Charleston Yacht Club on Monday evening, May 31st.

A discounted early entry fee of $200.00 applies if entry is received prior to February 1st, 2010; the entry fee is $250.00 after February 1st.  Anyone interested in only racing the 10nm sprint race to the Daytona Pier may do so by filling out an application with a $75.00 entry fee.

A block of rooms has been reserved in Charleston at the Courtyard by Marriott located at 35 Lockwood Drive, 0.2 miles from the Charleston City Marina and the Charleston Yacht Club, for $109.00/night (plus tax).  All racers needing a room are responsible for their own reservations by calling the Marriott directly at 843-722-7229 and mention promotion code GUSS for the discounted rate.  This promotional rate will only be available for reservations made until April 30th, 2010.

More information on the GulfStreamer Race will be sent out as we get closer to the event.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Sponsorship Opportunities Available

We have many advertising and marketing opportunities, which make your investment as a sponsor very valuable. The multi-state Race draws sailboat and spectator power boaters, their friends and families, and spectators and visitors from all over the East Coast of Florida and up to South Carolina and beyond. The primary benefit to GulfStreamer sponsors is the opportunity to reach consumers, employees and clients at several lifestyle levels. Dollars spent on a positive community event go much further in establishing local business loyalty, community image and visitor appreciation, than those spent on traditional advertising avenues.

The GulfStreamer Race Committee, in an effort to secure and retain these all-important sponsors works to meet each sponsor’s goals and provides a package designed at maximizing sponsor return for dollar investment. In addition to providing promotional opportunities for sponsors, the GulfStreamer Race Committee in conjunction with The Halifax River Yacht Club, gives back to the community by increasing awareness of sailing, as well as local attractions to area residents and visitors by sponsoring events such as the GulfStreamer Race

The GulfStreamer Race website's sponsorship page,  www.thegulfstreamer.com/sponsor.htm , includes several pieces of information about the Race and a Sponsorship Opportunities information sheet for your review. We guarantee that there will be only one sponsor from each type of professional field. This decision is based on a first come first serve basis. For our advertising deadlines – posters, newsprint, radio spots and signage – we need your decision with completed application and payment on or before March 15, 2010.
