The Halifax River Yacht
Club in Daytona Beach Florida is proud to announce
the 8th biennial running of the GulfStreamer
Race - a sailing regatta from Daytona Beach,
Florida to Charleston South Carolina. The
GulfStreamer Race has been held on
even years over Memorial Day weekend since 1998 and the 2012 race is
drawing sailors and spectators from all over the southeastern United
States.
The Halifax River Yacht
Club will host a rum party on Thursday, May 24th as a send
off to the sailors who will begin the GulfStreamer
Race the following afternoon (Click
Here to view the Events page for more details...).
The Gulfstreamer
Race starts at the sea buoy in Ponce Inlet,
Florida. The Race start begins the traditional "race within a race"
as skippers and crew sail a sprint race the first 10 miles to the Daytona
Beach Pier for a separate "sprint" trophy. This "sprint"
race will finish in the early evening on Friday, May 25th, just a few
hundred yards from the end of the Daytona Beach Pier providing
the best viewing of the entire Race. Local spectators are encouraged
to view the Race from this location, or at the nearby Ocean
Deck Restaurant & Club.
Racers entered in the entire GulfStreamer
Race won't stop to celebrate the "sprint"
finish, but will continue the Race as they turn their sailing tactics
from a short sprint to a grueling test of endurance and seamanship as
they head towards Charleston, South Carolina, approximately
215 nautical miles to the north. The skippers and crew should be finishing
the Race Saturday evening and into Sunday morning offshore just as Charleston
kicks off it's annual arts and cultural festival known as the Spoleto
Festival (Click Here for more...). Many friends
and family are already making plans for a weekend of fun as they follow
their favorite skippers and crew to Charleston. More information
for visitors to the Daytona Beach area and the Charleston
area is available on the Visitors link.
The Charleston Yacht Club
will host an awards ceremony on Monday, May 28th for sailors and friends
and award trophies for the GulfStreamer
Race. Proposed trophies
include first to finish, first boat with a female crew member, fastest
club (consisting of the average of the three fastest boats from the
same recognized club or organization after corrected time) and of course,
the overall winner.
Be
sure to get your 2012GulfStreamer
Race application in
early as there will be a discounted entry fee for early registrations
as well as boat names being included in commemorative brochures and
t-shirts (be sure to look for updates on this site for more information).
Please be sure to add your email address to our newsletter and email

The 8th running of the
GulfStreamer Race is slated
to be the most exciting and most intense to date. No wonder it's called
"The Race Too Intense to Hold Every Year".
